William T. Fizell, 1842-1911

Wm. Fizell, an old soldier and resident of this county, died at the National Soldiers Home in Leavenworth, Kansas, June 2, and the body was brought here for burial, arriving here Monday evening and a short service was held at the Christian church, and the interment was made the same evening in Riverside cemetery.

Mr. Fizell was born in Addison county, Vermont, in 1842. He came to this county about twenty-five years ago and followed his trade, that of a painter, for a number of years. Later he moved to North Dakota, and a couple of years ago returned to Spencer and spent the winter. He was in the Civil War. Mr. Fizell is spoken of by the older settlers as a splendid man and an upright citizen.

Mr. Fizell leaves a daughter, sister and two nieces living in Osage, and who were present at the funeral.

He was a charter member of Annett Post, G.A.R., and the members of this order officiated at the funeral.
