MRS. MARGARET HINES IS DEAD
Old Resident of This County Passes Away in Her Ninety-Fifth Year
Mrs. Margaret Hines, a resident of this county for thirty-six years, died at her home, 593 West Fifth street, Monday afternoon, April 4, 1921, aged 94 years, 6 months and 18 days. Funeral service were held at Sacred Heart Catholic church Saturday morning at nine o'clock, followed by interment in Riverside cemetery.
Margaret Wheylen was born at Carlow, Ireland, Oct. 16, 1826. She came to the United States with her parents in 1849, and three years later she was married at Ottawa, Illinois, to Michael Hines. Her husband died in 1868.
Mrs. Hines moved from Illinois in 1885 and bought a farm in Lone Tree township, this county. There she made her home until 1892, when she moved to Spencer and took up her residence on West Fifth street.
Mrs. Hines was a devout Catholic, active in church work, a good neighbor and a Christian mother and had won a host of friends who will grieve at her passing.
She left to mourn her four sons, R.E., A.J, and Lafayette Hines of Spencer, and M.M. Hines of Chicago, and a daughter, Mrs. Josephine Haggerty of Edmonton, Canada; fourteen grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren and two brothers, Thomas Wheylen of Gramont, Ill., and Edward Wheylen of Pontiac, Ill.
Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral included Mrs. Josephine Haggerty of Edmonton, Canada, Frank Harvey and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Harvey, cousins; of Grand Junction, Iowa; Jerome Wheylen of Grand Junction; M.J. Foley of Des Moines and Dennis Foley of Los Angeles, nephews.
