Mrs. Melvin A. Thompson, a former resident of Spencer, passed away Friday noon, April 20, at 1 o'clock at her home in Darlington, Wisconsin. Her death was very sudden, following a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Thompson had an attack of paralysis about five years ago but seemed to be improving and was feeling well until her second stroke. Short prayer services were held Sunday at l2:30 at the Methodist church in Darlington, Wisconsin. Following the services there the body was taken to Spencer to the Cobb Funeral Home. Mrs.[sic] Thompson and two sons, Allen and Dale, accompanied the body to Spencer. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3:30 at the Cobb Funeral Home, Dr. Herbert Clogg, pastor of the Methodist church of Spencer,officiated. Burial was made at the Riverside cemetery. Mr. Thompson and sons returned to Darlington yesterday. While they Were here, they were at the home of a friend, Mrs. J.M. Masterman.
Miss Carrie Landthere was born In Shellrock, Ia., July 26, 1866. She remained there until She was 14 years of age and then moved with her parents to Spencer, Iowa, and remained there until the time of her marriage. Following her graduation from school, she taught for several years in the East and West schools or this city. On December 17, 1895, Carrie Landthere was united in marriage to Marvin A. Thompson. To this union were born four children, Allen, Nelson, Hale and Dale.
Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson moved to Wisconsin where they remained for a while and then returned to Iowa and settled in Ayrshire. They made their home in Ayrshire for about 16 years. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson moved to Freeport, Illinois and lived for a short time and then removed to Darlington, Wisconsin, where they were living at the time of Mrs. Thompson's death. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Congregational church. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbor lodge of Ayrshire, Iowa.
