Sherman Rufus Green, 1847-1902

Sherman Rufus Green was born in Whiting, Vt., Nov. 7, 1847. The following year his parents removed west and settled in Burnett, Dodge county, Wis.

He was married Nov, 25, 1869, to Miss Estella Pamelia Cole and remained in Wisconsin till March 1882, when they came to Spencer and this city has since been their home. One daughter was born to them,Mrs. Nellie Walters, whose home is in Spencer.

He died Saturday, June 14, at his home in this city alter an illness of several weeks.

Mr. Green has two brothers and a sister living, Mr. Chas. Green, of Oskosh, Wis., who with his wife was present at the funeral; Mr. Geo. Green, of Chicago, and Mrs. Juliet Dailey, of Fort Moagan, Col.

Besides these there are two step-sisters, Mrs. Barlow, of Oskosh, Wis., and Mrs. Wilson, of Alpena, Mich.

During his long residence in Spencer Mr. Green led an upright and useful life. He took an acute interest in the affairs of the city and county, having served the city as alderman and at the time of his decease serving his second term as coroner of the county.

Funeral services were held at the late home yesterday at 1.30, Rev. T. F. Bowen officiating and the body laid to rest in Riverside cemetery.
