Peter Alett, an old settler of Spencer, was born in Asaka, Sweden, May 1st, 1833, and died at his home in this city July 5th, after a severe illness of three weeks, though he had been failing all spring from asthma, which at length caused his death.
Before coming to this country, Mr. Alett served as a soldier in Skoning’s Co., Skaraborg’s Regiment for thirty years. He was married in 1854 to Miss Johanna Johnson and in 1881 they came to America and settled in Spencer, where they had since resided. This union was blessed with three children: Mrs. J. Oline, of Spencer, Mrs. A. Johnson, of Artesian, S.D., and Mrs. Geo. Howe, of Estherville.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Swedish Lutheran church, of which the deceased had been a devoted member. Rev. Sundine, of that church, and Rev. Amhyrst, of the Methodist church conducted the services. Both in their own language, spoke the words of comfort to the bereaved family and to the many friends, who had gathered in love and sympathy.
After the services at the church, the body was taken to Riverside cemetery and laid to rest.
He leaves a wife and the three children mentioned to mourn his death. (Spencer Clay County News, Spencer, IA, July 14, 1904)
