DEATH OF A VETERAN

Nicholas Hutchinson died yesterday at 11 a. m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank P. Riley, aged 76 years, one month and one day. Mr. H. was well known in Spencer, as he located here in 1878 and for several years made this city his home. He was born in Ireland and came to this country when about sixteen years old, living at first in New York, where, when the war broke out, he enlisted in the navy and served his country. After the war he came west and located at Decorah, Iowa, and in 1878 came to Spencer. He was a stone mason by trade. At Decorah he united with the G. A. R. and the M. E. church. Short funeral services, conducted by Key. Thomas Batho, will be held at the home this, afternoon, after which the remains will be taken to Freeport, Iowa--near Decorah--where final funeral service will be held, and all that is mortal of the good old veteran consigned to the earth. He leaves three children--two daughters and one son--, as follows: Mrs. F.P. Riley, of Fostoria, another daughter living at New Orleans, La., and a son at Tacoma, Wash.
