ROSSIE - Services for Lawrence Henry Jespersen, 83, of Rossie will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Royal. Pastor Roy Satre will officiate and burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery at Peterson. He died Jan. 1 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.

Bearers will be L.A. White, Bob White, Gary Toft, Stanley Jespersen, Russell Haaland and Norman Jespersen. Honorary bearers will be Morris Draper, Emil Hein, Melvin Joenks, Ken Joenks, Ralph Holtues, Ernest Loe, Ben Albers, Harold Myers, Raynold Hagedorn and Nat Beck. Mrs. Melvin Joenks will sing "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Rugged Old Cross." Mrs. Joenks will also serve as organist.

Jespersen was born July 29, 1896, near Royal, the son of Christian and Marie Paulsen Jespersen. His parents died when he was very young and he was raised by his foster parents, Fred and Carin Bygerre. He attended school in both Royal and Spencer. He worked for his parents for a number of years. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Royal, and served on the church council. He served with the U.S. Army during World War I. He married Martha Paulsen on Nov. 19, 1919, at Bethlehem Lutheran church. They farmed in the Royal area for many years. He worked on the Al-Can Highway in Alaska in 1944 and later for the State Highway Commission until retirement in 1961. He lived in Rossie until 1977 when he moved to Spencer. He was a 50-year member of Glen Pederson Post 1 American Legion.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Jespersen of Indianola and Wesley Jespersen of Council Bluffs; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Barnhard of Fort Collins, Colo., Mrs. Naomi Adams and Mrs. Eunice Binder of Spencer; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on March 12, 1964; two grandchildren; two brothers and one sister.

The Warner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
