Anna Scharf Witt, 1878-1922

Mrs. Charles Witt, a former Spencer resident, passed away at her home in Decorah. Iowa, early Saturday morning, July 1, 1922, at the age of forty-four years, ten months and four days.

Her death was due to cancer of the lungs, from which the deceased had been suffering for some time. The body was brought to this city Sunday afternoon and taken to the G.R. Splether(?) home on East Second street.

Anna Marie Scharf was horn August 27, 1878, in Green Lake county, Wisconsin. She came with her parents to Clay county and for four years resided on a farm in Summit township. She was a student in our Clay county schools. On May 23, 1900 she was united in marriage to Charles Witt of Spencer. To this union were born two children, one daughter, Alma, and one son, Duane.

The family were Spencer residents for several years and Mr. Witt was employed In the Moulton, Fee & Co., department store in this city. One year they were residents of Snohomish, Washington, and in October of last year they moved from Spencer to Waverly, Iowa. For the past three months they have been residing in Decorah. Mrs. Witt had been confirmed in the German Lutheran church but in later years had been attending the M.E. church. She had been a member of the Pythian Sisters for several years and had a host of friends in this community, all of whom extend their sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their sorrow.

The deceased leaves to mourn their loss her husband, Charles Witt, a daughter, Mrs. Ora Emerick, and a son, Duane Witt, all of Decorah. Her mother, Mrs. Charles Seharf of this city, three sisters, Mrs. G. R. Splettor, and Mrs. Jake Kumba of this city and Mrs. Minnie Johnson of Chicago, and five brothers, Henry Scharf of Snohomish, Washington, Charles W. Scharf of Kalispell. Montana, Ed Scharf of Holliday, North Dakota, J.J. Scharf of Spencer, and George Scharf of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in this city Wednesday morning at ten-thirty o'clock. Rev. Robert Lee Stuart , pastor of that church officiating. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
