Anna Hjelm Nelson, 1875-1959

Anna Johanna Hjelm was born at Clinton, Oct. 3, 1875 to Jensen and Karn Hjelm. Her death at Spencer Municipal hospital July 7 followed two years of cancer.

She was married Nov. 11, 1896 in Willow Creek township, Clay county to Martin Nelson. Six children were born to this union: Elmer Nelson of Japan; Mrs. Chester (Sophia) Triplett, Sutherland, Theodore Nelson, Royal, Mrs. Elsie Walsh, St. Louis, Mo., Richard Nelson and Harry Nelson of Royal. They survive as do nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four brothers: Simon, Hans, Niels Hjelm of Royal and Maurice Hjelm of Spencer. She was preceded in death by her husband.

She was a charter member of the Ladies' Aid of Bethlehem Lutheran church at Royal and also a member of the church. Before coming to Clay county 67 years ago she had resided at Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were held Friday at Bethlehem Lutheran church. The Rev. Clifford Paulsen officiated at the service and burial was in Riverside cemetery under direction of Warner Funeral home.

Pallbearers were Leo Mortenson, Donald Olin, Ernest Loe, Harold Anderson, Harold Christensen and Hjelmar Huberg.

Mrs. Howard Zieman was organist and soloist was Miss Darlene Walstrom. She sang "Our Father Has a Light In His Window" and "Rock of Ages."
