Long-time physician Dr. Munger, 75, dies
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Lightle-Hayes Funeral Home for Dr. Elbert Ervin Munger, Jr. 75, who died Thursday in a Tucson, Ariz., hospital. The Spencer native, who had practiced medicine here for 40 years, had been living in Tucson for the past four years.
The Rev. Gerald G. Hallauer will conduct the Spencer funeral services and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Organist will be Mrs. Dorothy Enderson and bearers will be Robert Bendlin, Larry Bendlin, Ralph Fischer, Wayne Morton, Charles G. Jones and Erland Maurer.
Dr. Munger leaves his wife, Millicent, whom he married in 1935 at Rosamond, Ill., a son, John Munger of Tucson; two sisters, Mrs. M.M. Garrett, Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Margaret Munger Davis, Milford, Mich.; a brother, Samuel Munger, Vero Beach, Fla.
Dr. Munger was born June 9, 1898 in Spencer, son of Dr. E.E. Munger Sr. and the former Edith Johnson. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb., leaving at the end of the year to enter the armed forces during World War I. He served with a U.S. Army Field Artillery unit and was discharged in 1919.
He then attended Chicago University and was graduated from Rush Medical College in 1924, serving his internship and residency at St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago. During the four years he has lived in Tucson, he practiced on the staff of St. Mary's Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital and Tucson Medical Center.
He was a member of the American Medical Association and an honorary member of the Spencer Municipal Hospital medical staff.
Friends may call at Lightle-Hays Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Sunday. A memorial for the Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago is being established.
