Bernice Bernetta Lammers Brugman, 96, Muscatine, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Muscatine General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Edward Meyer of the Mount Zion Church officiating.

Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. today.

Casket bearers will be Brad Brammer, Todd Brammer, Nathan Brammer and Steve Fortmann.

Honorary casket bearers will be Julie Fortmann, Claudia Brammer, Kim Brammer, Jim Halstead, Charles Wegner, Marlin Schauland, Ken Kloppenburg and Don Nielsen.

Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Bernice Bernetta Brugman Lammers was born on Aug. 10, 1902, in Everly, to Emil and Dorothea (Dora) Stuhr Brugman. She attended school in Everly and graduated with the class of 1919. She attended Grinnell College in Grinnell, and the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, which is now the University of Northern Iowa. She received her B.A. degree from Marycrest College in Davenport.

Bernice taught school in a rural school near Everly and in the public schools of Royal, Hartley and Muscatine. She had been the second grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary School in Muscatine for 36 years before retiring in 1969.

On Aug. 21, 1930, she married Elmer Lammers. Following their marriage they lived on a farm southeast of Everly after their marriage. Elmer passed away on Jan. 29, 1938.

Mrs. Lammers was a member of the Mount Zion Church, the Muscatine Area Retired Teachers Association and the Order of the Eastern Star in Sanborn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Elmer.

Her surviving family includes Maxine Brammer and her husband, Chuck of Grinnell, Brad Brammer and family, Todd Brammer and family, Nathan Brammer and family and Julie Fortmann and family; several cousins; numerous friends and students.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Zion Church in Muscatine.
