Albert Henry "Bert" Oxley, 68, Spencer, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Services for Mr. Oxley will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. The Rev. Lee Sather will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
Casket bearers will be George Tewald, Jim Hynes, Denny Zeigler, Jim Schaa, Jerry VerHoef and Steve Uhe. Honorary casket bearers will be Lawrence Smith, Maurice Henning, Julius "Dewey" Langenfeld and Everett Amis.
The Warner Funeral HOme is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Oxley was born Jan. 11, 1920, to Charles and Olive Brown Oxley in Wakefield, Mass. His family moved to England when he was 2 1/2 years old and it was there that he received his education. He lived in England for 25 years before returning to the United States in 1947.
On April 14, 1951, he married Mary Orr in Marysville, Kan. They lived in that community until 1954 when they moved to Spencer. He was a plant foreman at the Cyanamid Plant in Spencer for several years before beginning work at the Farmer's Elevator. He worked for CD Farm Service for 20 years before retiring in 1985.
Mr. Oxley was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer and involved in a number of community activities. He worked with the BABES Program, an alcohol and drug prevention program; the reading program at Jefferson School; and the Head Start program.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Mary Elizabeth and Steve Quinn of Mason City, Christine Ann and Richard Peters of Spencer, and Celesta Marie Oxley of Spencer; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Hazel Sluggett of Nanimo, British Columbia and Doreen Spiller of Norwich, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
