Elsie Munson, 105, of Spencer, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003 at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer. Funeral services will be held on Sat. Dec. 20 at United Methodist church in Webb. Rev. Elliott Butler III will officiate the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial will be in Garfield Cemetery in Webb.
Casketbearers will be Ronald Williams, Jerry Williams, Don Van Gilst, Dan Herrin, Wayne Williams, Greg Jones, Jim Chalfant, and Frank Bringleson.
Elsie Williams Munson, the daughter of John and Anna (Parr) Williams, was born Jan. 31, 1898 in Clay County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Webb, where she received her education. Her family moved to Kansas for seven years before returning to Webb. After high school, she attended Des Moines University for one year.
Elsie married William Wallace Munson on June 4, 1919 in Webb. Following their marriage, they bought the general store in Webb and ran it for almost 50 years until it burned down. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Webb. She was also an active member of the Webb community serving as a member of the following organizations: Eastern Star, past member of the Birthday Club, the Senior's Citizens Club, and was a volunteer at Johnson School in Spencer for 9 years. Elsie lived alone in her home until moving to Northshire Residence in Jan. 1998. She had most recently become a member of Longhouse Residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace in 1974 and an infant brother.
She is survived by her relatives including her cousins Shirley and her husband Ray Ohrtman of Ringsted, and Lyle and his wife Betty Williams of Webb, and many friends.Interment in Garfield cemetery
