Marie Zielstra Johnson, formerly of Ruthven, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Riverview Terrace in Spencer. Marie Johnson, daughter of Jake and Dora (Rouse) Zielstra was born in Lake Township near Terril, Ia. She attended school at Lake Center, graduating in 1929. Following graduation she attended AIB in Des Moines. She was then employed in Des Moines and later California.
On Oct 6, 1940 she married Gerald E. Johnson in Des Moines. Following their marriage she was a homemaker and farm wife.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of United Methodist Church in Ruthven and Eastern Star. She had been active in 4-H and Farm Bureau, serving as a delegate in Washington, D.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald, and one sister, Irma Starkey.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons: Robert Johnson of Des Moines and John Johnson of Kingsville, TX., one brother, Lester Zielstra, of Ruthven; two sisters, Arlene McMillin of Ringsted and Olive Dandy of Springdale, Arkansas.
