John Austin Shorb

John Austin Shorb was born Nov. 4, 1830, at Canton, Stark Co.,Ohio. He died Wednesday, February 27, 1901, at 4:30 at his home in Spencer, Iowa, aged 70 years, 3 months, and 23 days. While yet a young man he married Mary A Stauffer, April 26, 1857, at Pleraton, Ind. To them were born ten children eight of whom are living and all except two were at his bed side when he died.

In 1881 he moved his family to Iowa within three miles of Spencer where he resided for twelve years, engaged in farming, and afterwards moved to Spencer where the remainder of his life was spent. He was a good citizen and loved husband and father. Though he suffered for more than a year, he was seldom heard to complain.
