TURNER, James Delbert

The many friends of James Delbert (Dell) Turner of near Cornell, grieved last week to learn of his sudden death at the Spencer hospital. Mr. Turner had been subject to attacks of stomach trouble caused by ulcers in the stomach and while picking corn one day last week became suddenly ill. He was brought to the hospital where it was hoped that an operation would save his life, but he died before anything could be done for him.

Mr. Turner was born in Marshalltown, Ia. August 24, 1879, and at the time of his death was a little more than forty-two years of age. He was married about twelve years ago in this county to Miss Minnie Lauter, who lived with her parents west of Spencer. Besides the widow Mr. Turner is survived by three children, Floyd, Elizabeth and Dorothy.

His mother, now eighty-three years of age, lives with a daughter in Strongfield, Canada. Other surviving relatives are his sisters, Mrs. Joe Hof of Madison, South Dakota; Mrs. Julia Quinton of Rock Springs, Wyoming; Mrs. Rush of Strongfield, Canada; and the brothers: Abraham of Marshalltown, Iowa; Charles T. of Madison, South Dakota; and Jesse of Strongfield, Canada.

For the past six years Mr. Turner has been employed on the farm of M. F. Doyle near Cornell where he was working when taken with his last illness. He was well liked and highly respected and the wife and children have the sincere sympathy of many friends in their sad bereavement.

The funeral services were held from the home of the wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Lauter, Friday afternoon in charge of the M. E. minister from Webb. Interment was made in the cemetery near Greenville.

Notes from contributor: 1) James' wife's maiden name was misspelled - should be LOUTER.
2) Mr. Turner's name has been inconsistently recorded in various places as both James Delbert and Delbert James.l
