GUN WOUND FATAL TO LOCAL MAN

A 49-year old rural Spencer man died Friday morning, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

County Coroner, L. F. Frink ruled suicide in the death of Vernon Scheffler, who resided on a farm two miles east and one-half mile north of the North Y.

Scheffler was found sitting in his pickup truck about 3:15 p.m. Friday by his brother, Arnold, with whom he lived. Authorities stated that time of death was probably shortly after he left his home about 9 a.m. The death weapon was a .22 calibre repeating rifle, which was found clutched in the victim's hands.

Funeral services have been set for Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Warner Funeral home with the Rev. Floyd Hinshaw officiating. Burial will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Scheffler is survived by his brother, Arnold, and two sisters, Gladys Scheffler of Emmetsburg and Mrs. Bob Hasara of Spirit Lake.

VERNON SCHEFFLER

Vernon Scheffler was born April 1, 1910 to George and Marie Knutsen Scheffler in Meadow township. He died July 31 at his home northeast of Spencer.

Spencer was his birthplace and he had lived his entire life there.

Funeral services were held at Warner funeral chapel Aug. 4 with the Rev. Floyd Hinshaw conducting the service and burial was in North Lawn cemetery. Mrs. Merrill Soloman sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages." Accompanist was Mrs. Lowell Hagedorn. Pallbearers were Walter James, Charles Kohn, Forrest Hanna, Walter Kriens, Ray C. Lawrence and Wes Brinkley.

He is survived by two sisters; Gladys Scheffler of Emmetsburg and Mrs. Bob (La Verna) Hasara of Spirit Lake and brother, Arnold of the home, also one niece, Sandy Hasara and aunt, Mrs. Gus Newsgaard of San Antonio, Tex.
