Hie DeWall, 1869-1955

Hie DeWall, son of John and Gertude DeWall was born in Germany May 5, 1869 and came to this country with his parents, when a small child, settling in Calhoun County, Iowa.

Feb. 21, 1891 he was married to Lena Walpert who preceded him in death May 5, 1949. They became the parents of four daughters and one son, Wesley, who preceded him in death, July 1944.

In 1902 they moved to a farm home west of Fostoria, where they lived until they retired in Spencer. Mr. DeWall was a life long member of the United Brethren Evangelical church, but attended the Baptist church while in Spencer.

On Dec. 8, he suffered a heart attack and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Schoorman, where he had made his home the past three one-half years.

Mr. DeWall is survived by four daughters; Mrs. Bertha Schoorman, Mrs. Ella Bleeker, Mrs. Lillian Pollock of Chicago, and Mrs. Laura Shatto; ten grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Q. M. Westphal of Manson and Mrs. Anna Brunals of Sac City.

Services were held Monday, Dec. 12 at the First Baptist church with Rev. A. M. Halverson and Rev. M. Houts of the U. B. Evangelical church, officiating. Rev. Halvorson sang "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder", "Going Down This Valley", and "It Is Well With My Soul". Mrs. Krile accompanist.

Pall bearers were the following grandsons: Glen Schoorman, Harvey Meyers, Dean Shatto, Lowell Shatto, Leonard DeWall, and Donald DeWall.

Burial was in North Lawn cemetery.
