Guardsman's funeral scheduled for Thursday

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer for Spc. Daryl A. Davis, 20, who was killed last week in a vehicle accident in Iraq while traveling between military bases.

The Rev. Roger Linnan will officiate, and burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer. Presentation of awards by the military will be held at 7 p.m. The family will be present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Davis, a 2002 graduate of Spencer High School, joined the Iowa National Guard as a student. He transferred to the Florida National Guard earlier this year after enrolling in a mechanics school. He died while acting as a gunner aboard a Humvee en route to a military logistical support area in Iraq.
