Mrs. Rhoda Culver of 622 West Fourth street, Spencer, 69 years of age, passed away Saturday evening, December 24, at nine o'clock while enroute home by train from McKinney, Tex., where she had been receiving treatment at the City hospital the past 15 days. Mrs. Culver had been in poor health for a year but was not seriously ill. She was thought to be very much improved and was given permission by her doctors to return to Spencer. Death occurred near Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Rhoda Louise Thompson was born November 17, 1863, near West Bend, Wis., and came with her family to Clay county in 1871, where she has lived the greater part of her life. She was married January 10, 1881, to Henry L. Culver, who preceded her in death August 18, 1913. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Culver made their home on a farm near Dickens and later moved to McHenry, N.D., where they lived for several years, before returning to Spencer where Mrs. Culver has since resided.

Mr. and Mrs. Culver were the parents of six children, Edna (Mrs. P. J. Brown) and Elmer of McHenry, N. D., Hazel (Mrs. C. C. Cranston) of Rochester, Minn., Evelyn (Mrs. Ernest Fickel) of Fullerton, Calif., Carl of Dickens and Ray of Spencer. She is survived by 19 grandchildren.

She was a member of the Grace M. E. church of Spencer, the Deborah's Band Sunday school class, the W.C.T.U. and the Women's Relief Corps.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal church with Dr. H.E. Hutchinson in charge. W. W. Haygarth, Earl Bassett, E. P. Flint, E. B. Squire, W. H. Annett and Ed Jones served as pall bearers. Internment was made in Riverside cemetery.

All six children, also her sister, Mrs. H. J. Buck of Spencer, and her brother, William H. Thompson of Boise, Idaho, attended the funeral. Another sister, Mrs. Emma Varney of Bismarck, N. D., and a brother, Samuel Thompson of Mission, Tex., were unable to attend because of ill health. Numerous other relatives and friends were in attendance at the last rites.
