James Maupin Died Friday
Had been in Failing Health Some Time

James Maupin, well known farmer residing north of Osceola died at his home last Friday at the age of 59 years. He has been in failing health for several years and was bedfast the past two months.

Funeral services were held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Osceola, the Rev. Frank Jacobs officiating. Pallbearers were C. Fred Carlson, Oscar Patterson, Will Touet, Floyd Overton, Lewis Schafer, and Harold Stephenson. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery [note: he is actually buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in the Greenwood section] under the direction of the Lamoree Funeral Home.

James Maupin was born at Clearfield, Tennessee, on August 23, 1883, and departed this life on Friday, January 1, being at the time of his death 59 years, 4 months, and 7 days of age.

When a small boy he moved with his parents to Somerset, Ky., where he spent his boyhood years. The year 1901 he spent in Illinois. The following year he went to Pocahontas, Iowa where he lived for 35 years.

On February 7, 1909, he was united in marriage to Alma Lauritsen.

"Jim" as he was known to his many friends, endeared himself to all who knew him. He was a kind and loving husband, a loyal friend, and an exemplary Christian, having been a faithful member of the Methodist Church since the year 1908.

About six years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Maupin purchased a home near Osceola, where they had resided until the present time. For the past four years Mr. Maupin had been in failing health having been a patient sufferer with Hodgkins's disease. He has been bedfast for the past two months. He always enjoyed having his friends and neighbors call for a little chat, although at times he was scarcely able to visit.

He is survived by his widow, three sisters, Mrs. Jake Minton... [note: Unfortunately, this is the end of the newspaper clipping that I have. It was continued on page 5, but it was not attached to this obituary scrapbook].

Unknown newspaper, but likely the newspaper in Osceola, Iowa. Taken from an obituary scrapbook compiled by Helen Simms Gorsline. Transcribed 4/6/2024
