Funeral services were held Sunday at the Webster Funeral Home for James E. Simms, prominent Clarke County farmer, who died on Thursday of last week. Rev. O.J. Fix of the Trinity Methodist church, was in charge of the service and interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Music was provided by Mrs. E.G. Banta and Mrs. C.Z. Smith, accompanied by Merrill Proudfoot.

James Edward Simms, son of James and Margaret Simms, was born near Osceola, Iowa February 2, 1872, and passed away in his home near Osceola December 31, 1942, at the age of 70 n years, 10 months, and 29 days.

On November 7, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Elsie Hunt and to them five children were born: Harold at home, Leona Howe, and Beryl Simms of Osceola. Besides the above-mentioned companion and children there remain to mourn one granddaughter, Eva Howe of Osceola, one brother Ury Simms of Osceola, two sisters Mrs. Fannie McKeever of Osceola and Mrs. Ida Hubbard of Monterey Park, California, and many other relatives and friends. Those who preceded him in death were: the infant twins, Sharon Ray and Opal May in January 1905, also his father and mother and one brother, Milan.

Mr. Simms was converted in the Christian Faith during the revival meetings of Rev. E.E. Tague and affiliated himself with the Frame Methodist Protestant church and remained a member there until his death. His whole life has been spent in this vicinity having followed farming as an occupation. The last 28 years he lived on the place, where after several months of illness death overtook him.
