Mrs. Emily Cloyd wife of Green Cloyd passed away at her home in Osceola, Friday morning, at 7 o.clock, February 1, 1901. Emily Cleveland was born in Livingston county, Missouri, January 17, 1839. She was 61 years, 1 month and 14 days of age at the time of her death.

Mrs. Cloyd has lived in Clarke county 23 years and was the mother of eight children. She leaves a husband, six children and a host of friends to mourn her loss. She was a kind and devoted wife and mother, and took great pleasure in raising her family in an honest and upright manner.

Mrs. Cloyd had been sick for nearly five years, and during her long illness was always kind and patient, with a loving word for all. She was a member of the Latter Day Saints church and was a true and faithful Christian. The funeral services were held from the A.M.E. church, Suday morning at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. G.W. Robinson, and her remains laid to rest in Maple Hill cemetery.

George and Joe Cloyd, of Des Moines, and Lou Cloyd, of Sioux City, and James Cloyd, of Omaha, attended the funeral of their mother, Mrs. Green Cloyd.

The 1930's WPA Grave Registration Survey says:
"3 graves on this lot are with rocks for headstones - no other marker. The lot belongs to Green Cloyd."

Green Cloyd's mother, Louisa Cloyd, also had an obituary in the Osceola Sentinel which said she was buried at Maple Hill.

In 1900 census Green and Emily Cloyd were living in Osceola with their married daughter Mary Green Wilson and granddaughter.
