Mr. Thomas P. Johnson died Tuesday evening at the home of his son J.R. Johnson in Des Moines; the immediate cause of his death being internal injuries received in a fall from a load of hay in Missouri a couple of weeks ago. A minister from Des Moines will conduct funeral services at the Osceola Christian church at half-past two o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon.

Mr. Johnson's age was 74 years, 3 months and 20 days. He was born in Carroll county, Tennessee, and was only three years of age when his parents moved to Bloomington, Illinois, where he was married to Miss Eliza J. Rhodes in 1847. Nine children were born to them, two daughters and seven sons, of whom the daughters and four sons survive him.

In 1857 he came with his family to Clarke county located on the farm in Green Bay township now known as the James Yates farm. Soon after his arrival he organized Clarke county's first Christian church at his home in Green Bay township, of which he was an elder for sixteen years. After the death of Dr. Chaney, who was also an elder of the Green Bay church, he was the only surviving member, so that his death removes from earth the last of the membership of this pioneer band of Christian workers.

He served two years in the Mexican war under Scott and Taylor, and had a good record as a soldier. He passed away happy in the belief that his Lord and Master beckoned him home.
