Nora E. Saddoris was born May 15, 1906, in Warren County and died Dec. 19, 1996, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. She was 90.

She attended rural country schools in Clarke County and married Leonard Perle Saddoris on April 2, 1924. The couple became the parents of six children.

Mrs. Saddoris was a homemaker and a cook at the school as well as a housekeeper and cook for the local hospital. She was known for years as the town’s cookie and carrot bar baker, especially around Christmas and Valentine’s Day.
She like to embroider tea towels and pillow cases.

Mrs. Saddoris was a member of the former Methodist-Protestant Church in Osceola. Most recently, she attended the Calvary Bible Church in Osceola which she enjoyed and she assisted with nursing home services every Wednesday.

Mrs. Saddoris loved helping out with the raising of her grandchildren, many of whom received child care from her while parents went to work. She was a “gal Friday” whenever emergencies came up and the children needed to be picked up or taken somewhere. No one can think of Mrs. Saddoris without remembering a favorite food she prepared.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burd and Etta Wright Pressly; three sisters, Avis Pressly in infancy, Eva Wimmer and Flossie Pressly; two brothers, Virgil and Lester Pressly.

Mrs. Saddoris is survived by her four daughters, Helen Allen and her husband, Dennis Allen, Louise Hart and Donna Saddoris, all of Osceola and Martha Snyder of Parker, Colo.; two sons, Harold Saddoris and his wife, Carol Saddoris of Osceola and Stan Saddoris and his wife, Nancy Saddoris of Eden Prairie, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Violet Gaffey and her husband Leo Gaffey, of Iowa City and Pearly Spaulding and her husband Clifford Spaulding, of Olympia, Wash.; a sister-in-law Blanche Pressly of Hibbing, Minn.; a brother-in-law, John Beresford of Davenport, as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Services for Mrs. Saddoris were at 2 p.m. Dec. 23, 1996, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Pastor Ted Welch officiating. Organist Angela Jelsma accompanied Joyce Neal as she sang In the Garden and How Great Thou Art.

Casket bearers were Mike Allen, Mark Snyder, Randy Hart, Ron Hart, Ben Saddoris and Jeff Saddoris. Honorary casket bearers were David Allen, Rick Hart, Rodney Hart and Craig Saddoris. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Osceola.
