Gary Lee McVey, son of Charles Omer McVey and Cora Merle (Kimmel) McVey was born January 3, 1944 in Osceola, Iowa and passed from this life Friday, March 6, 2020 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center at 76 years of age.

Gary grew up around Indianola, Summerset and Runnells and graduated from Runnells High School. Gary served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965 and served in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, Gary returned to Iowa and was united in marriage to Ilene Ann Jones on October 13, 1973 in Manson, Iowa. They were blessed with three daughters, Kim, Katie and Kari.

Gary and Ilene moved to Osceola in 1985 where they raised their daughters. Gary was a very loving, hard working, family man. He was a self-employed carpenter and worked many years with his brother Darrell. Gary and Ilene enjoyed square dancing. Gary loved music, and played in several bands including the Headin' South Band and the Panhandlers. He enjoyed honky-tonks at "McGoofy's Garage". He could play many instruments and was a master at ad-libbing lyrics. He was known to say "Never turn the music down, always turn it UP!" When not playing music, Gary could be found drowning worms at Q-Pond.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Cora, mother-in-law, Elsie Jones, brothers, Eldon and Charles McVey, sisters, Norma Burr and Carmen Neer and two grand puppies Harvey & Lily.
