Iva Lenore Henderson was born on March 25, 1886. Her parents were Albert F. and Lillie Ann (Deitrick) Williams, farmers in Washington Township, Clarke County. Being the eldest of six children, Iva learned early to assume responsibility in the home, a quality which she kept through her long life of 93 years, two months and eight days.

On March 25, 1909 ( her 23rd birthday ) she was married to John J Henderson a young farmer in Ward Township, where they made their home. One child was born to this union, a son who died in infancy.

In 1924, John and Iva retired from the farm and purchased the home on south Jackson Street which was to be Iva’s home for 49 years. John died following an operation in 1932. Follower her mother’s death in 1934, Iva’s father came to live with her until his death in 1938.

Alone for many years, Iva made good use of her time and talents by working as a retail clerk in several Osceola stores. She also served several years as Deputy County Treasurer and twice was candidate for county office. She was a charter member of the Osceola Chamber of Business and Professional Women. Throughout her lifetime Iva loved her church and helped with its activities as long as she was able. She served several years as church treasurer.

Iva loved to have company to raise a garden and flowers, and to quilt. She was never so happy as when giving something to her friends and relatives. Iva and her sister Agnes have lived together since 1956, moving from the home on South Jackson to West Ward Manor in 1973.

Iva Henderson will be greatly missed by the family circle and by a host of friends. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters: Lon Williams and wife, Leona; Florence Proudfoot, and Agnes Williams, all of Osceola, and Raymond (Dick) Williams and wife Margaret of Chicago. Also surviving are 12 nieces and nephews, whom she considered as her own family, and many other relatives.
Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery beside her husband John and their infant son.

Funeral services for Iva Williams Henderson were held at the Christian Church in Osceola on Wednesday, June 6, 1979, with her pastor, the Reverend Roy Ives, officiating. She passed away early the morning of June 3 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after several weeks of illness.
