William K. Blakely.

William K. Blakely was born in Rush county, Indiana, March 15, 1833, and died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Hester, in Indianola, Iowa, March 15, 1914, aged 81 years. He was one of a family of six children of whom two sisters and one brother survive him.

He was united in marriage to Susan Snider in 1856, to which union seven children were born, three sons and four daughters, all of whom are living excepting Leroy who died at the age of seven years. The children are Frank of Nez Perce, Idaho, Mrs. Eva Smith of Indianola, Iowa, Mrs. Rose Harris of Castana, Iowa, Fred of Osceola, Mrs. Josie Teruahan of Nez Perce, Idaho, and Mrs. Blanche Stahl of Greeley, Colo. All of the children were present at the funeral excepting Mrs. Stahl and three of them were with their father during his last illness.

He came to Iowa in the spring of 1873 from Illinois and to Clarke county in 1878 and settled on a farm in Liberty township near liberty where he lived until his wife died in 1904, since which time he has lived around with his children and relatives. He belonged to the United Brethren church having united with a class at the St. George school house some years ago. He had always been a man of rugged health not having consulted a physician if fifty years until his final sickness. He took down with a severe case of grippe a couple weeks ago and was delirious almost from the very first attack. All that loving thought and care could do was done for him but the reaper had marked him for his own and he passed away very peacefully on his eighty-first birthday. Mr. Blakely was a splendid citizen and kind neighbor who was never heard to speak ill of anyone. He was of a rather quiet disposition, kind and loving in the home life and an all round good man. The family have the sympathy of many friends in their hour of bereavement.

The remains were brought to Osceola on No. 3 Tuesday morning and the funeral services conducted by the Rev. S. A. Saxe of the Osceola Presbyterian church at the liberty U. B. church after which the interment was made by the side of his wife in the Liberty cemetery.
