Lemuel J. Camp, son of Daniel and Rebecca Camp was born in Clinton county, Ohio, March 25, 1851 and departed this life at the home of his son, Will, in Murray, Iowa on November 10, 1937, at the age of 86 years seven months and 16 days.

When a small child he moved with his parents to Peoria county, Illinois, where he grew to manhood and on September 2, 1877 he was united in marriage to Nancy Jane O’Brien. To this union nine children were born, eight of whom survive, one daughter, Nannie, having preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1906.

The surviving children are Mrs. Grace Carter of Murray, E.J. Camp of Peru, Iowa, I.H. Camp of Truro, Mrs. Susie Kirk of Lorimor, Will Camp, of Murray, Mrs. Stella Kirk of Peru, Harvey Camp of Patterson and Marvin Camp of Peru, all of whom were with him when the end came.

In 1878 Mr. and Mrs. Camp moved to Jefferson county, Nebraska, where they resided several years; later moving to Norton county, Kansas. In 1896 they located in Clarke county, Iowa where they have since resided.

When a young man, Mr. Camp united with the Methodist church in Norton county, Kansas, later transferring his membership to the Church of Christ at Madison Chapel, near Murray. Mr. Camp was a devoted husband, a loving father and a loyal friend and neighbor. He leaves to mourn his pasing his loving wife, five sons, three daughters, 33 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. George Lyons of Cambridge, Nebr., and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held for Lemuel J. Camp, much loved and respected citizen of this vicinity, at one o’clock from the Christian church Friday afternoon with Rev. F.C. McCallon of Osceola officiating. Burial was made in the Hopeville cemetery, under the direction of the Watts Funeral service.
