William P. Marquis
Funeral services were held Friday at Woodburn for William P. Marquis, 87, long time resident of the county, who passed away on Wednesday, August 12. Services were conducted by Rev. T. U. Reed, and burial was in the Woodburn cemetery.

William Pearce Marquis, son of William and Lucy B. Marquis, was born in Henry county, Iowa October 22, 1354 and departed this life at an Osceola hospital on Wednesday, August 12, 1942 being at the time of his death 87 years, 9 months and 20 days old.

He has spent most of his life in Clarke county as a farmer.

He was united in marriage to Avarilla Kilgore, March 22, 1876 and to this union seven children were born, four sons and three daughters. One son passed away in infancy. The following children survive: Clarence of Des Moines, Blanche Dowell of Woodburn, Laurence of Woodburn, Nora Cormicle of Tracy, Gurnea of Woodburn, Golda Coons of Albia, who were all present at the time of his death. He is also survived by one brother, J. B. Marquis of Decatur, the only member of this family left. There are twenty grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was converted at the Welch school house and baptized in the Christian faith and at the time of his death was a member of the United Brethren church in Chariton.

His faithful wife remains also to bear this loss. He was a kind husband and father and a friend to all who knew him.
