Bryon Ward

Bryon Ward, son of William and Lucinda Ward, was born on the 18th day of April, 1860, at Grand Rapids, Wis., and died at his home in Murray, Iowa, February 26th, 1923, aged 62 years, ten months and 8 days.

He spent his early boyhood in Grand Rapids, but when Bryon was 14 years old, he came with his parents to Osceola, Iowa.

Nine years later, on December 2nd 1883, he was united in holy matrimony to Miss Cora G. Shinn. The young people started house keeping on a farm south of Osceola and for several years thereafter they lived the life of farmers.

In 1897 they moved to Nebraska and started out in business. After eleven years stay in that state, they came back to Iowa and entered business life at Woodburn, Ia. They lived in Woodburn for a period of 12 years, when Mr. Ward sold his business and came to Murray and entered into the poultry and produce business here. That was thirteen years ago. Since that time he has lived in our midst and made friends and conducted business in a fair and winning fashion.

A few months ago Mr. Ward disposed of his business and entered the hospital in Savannah, Mo., for special treatment. After he was discharged from the hospital he returned home and made a deal whereby he secured his old business again and became one of the business men of our community.

For some years Mr. Ward has been in failing health and especially since his return from the hospital his friends noticed that he was not in very good health. Last Tuesday he took quite ill at his place of business and was taken home and placed under the care of a physician. He steadily grew worse and on Friday that he could not rally and begun to discuss some deep question of eternal importance with his wife. He professed his trust in Jesus, and urged his wife to give him what time and strength she could to help folks to turn away carelessness and sin.

The deceased is survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. Fannie Pennington of Saverton, Mo.

Mr. Ward has many friends and business associates who grieve for his passing and who will remember him kindly as a business man and a sincere friend at all times.

Funeral services were held from the home in Murray at 1 o'clock, Wednesday, Feb. 28th conducted by Rev. Geo. W. Hall, pastor of Murray M. E. church. Interment was made in Woodburn cemetery.
