Died, at the residence of Arthur Keeves, in Osceola, Friday October 25, 1889, Mrs. Hannah Steffy, aged sixty-nine years, five months and twenty-three days.

The funeral services were held at the residence of Arthur Keeves, Sunday afternoon, October 27, 1889, at two o'clock. A large number of the friends of the family we're present and many followed the remains of the honored mother to her last resting place. The family have the sympathy of the entire community. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Edwards, Pastor of the Baptist church.

Mrs. Hannah Steffy, the subject of this notice, was born in Cambria county, Pennsylvania, May 2, A.D. 1820. She was united in marriage to William Steffy in her native state when she was sixteen years old.

About this time she obtained a hope in Christ and united with the German Baptist church in 1844. She and family came west and settled in Des Moines county, Iowa. Here she connected herself with the First Baptist church at Burlington, Rev. G.J. Johnson, pastor.

In 1868, she moved to Osceola, Clarke county, and in 1869, united with the Baptist church at this place. She was the mother of six children, three have died, and three daughters are still living. Death came to her home in 1847, taking away the partner of her earthly joys and sorrows, leaving her the care of a family, but by industry and economy she raised her family, completed her labors, and has now gone home to rest.

She leaves three daughters and sons-in-law, ten grandchildren, with a large circle of ardent and devoted friends, to mourn her departure. But she is not dead, only sleeping to await the resurrection of the just.

Sister Steffy was a kind and affectionate mother, a sympathizing friend, a respected and cherished neighbor, and a true and devoted Christian. She ardently loved the house of God, and was seldom away from the services when able to attend church. She was one of the most persistent in her habits of industry even down to the last week of her life; but she has crossed the silent river to join kindred spirits in the bright mansions above to await the coming of dear ones that must soon follow.
