Thursday Funeral
For Ellen Smith

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 23, for Ellen Ofa Smith, 63, who died at the Clarke County Public Hospital in Osceola Monday, January 20. Rev. John Dale will officiate at the 1:30 p. m. services which will be held from the Webster Funeral Home. Interment will be in Bethel Chapel Cemetery, Osceola.

Ellen Ofa Smith was born May 7, 1905, in Clarke county, Iowa, daughter of Wade Chumbley and Jennie Dixon Chumbley. She attended schools in Clarke county before her marriage to Howard K. Smith on March 12, 1924, in Osceola. Thirteen children were born to this union.

She spent the greater portion of her life in Clarke county where she was a member of the Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Howard of Osceola; six sons, Merle of Homewood, Illinois; Bernard of Oak Lawn, Illinois; Ward of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Clifford of Blue Island, Illinois; Jerry of Worth, Illinois and Darwin of Chicago, Illinois; six daughters, Mrs. Fern Van Daele of Chicago, Mrs. Eunice DeVore of Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Ramona Claypool of Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Shirley Schroeder of Hazelwood, Missouri; Miss Sandra Sue Smith of Des Moines and Miss Roxanne Smith of Osceola; 31 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Alma Messler of Woodburn, Helen Smith of Indianola and Mary Reinhart of Mitchellville, Iowa; nieces; nephews and other relatives.

Preceding her in death were her father; mother; son, Melvin; and granddaughter, Beverley Marie Van Daele.
