Mrs. Sarah Blanchard

Sarah Amanda Clark Blanchard was born in Stephenson County, Illinois, March 29, 1945, and died August 14, 1924, age 79 years, 4 months and 14 days. She moved in childhood with her parents to Ohio and from Ohio to Des Moines County, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood and was married to Robert R. Blanchard December 28, 1865. To this union one son, Edward A. was born.

In 1866 Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard moved to Webster county, Iowa. After living there a few years they moved back to Des Moines County, and after a few years, from there to Clarke county, where they lived until the time of her death. Her husband preceded her April 1, 1916. She leaves to mourn their loss one son, Edward A., her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Grace Blanchard two granddaughters, Mrs. Bernice Shores and Miss Edith Blanchard, and Nathaniel W. Clark, of Buell, Mo., who was unable to be present, besides a host of friends-for everyone loved Grandma. She united with the M. E. church May 21, 1876, ever living a consistent Christian life. She was a great lover of the church, and Sunday-school. The Bible was her guide and counsel of which she so loved to read.

She was one of the charter members of the Eastern Star Chapter at Woodburn. The deceased was patient sufferer and had her affections set on things eternal. It was her chief delight to do service for the Master and to labor in the realm of His Kingdom. She was loyal to her pledge of faith and reliance upon the exceedingly great and gracious promises, and her life and labor of love for those with whom she associated are the enduring testimonials of her Christian worth and devotion. In her going, the family will miss a devoted mother, and the church a most honored member.

Funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church at Woodburn, Iowa, by Rev. M. S. Clark of Chariton, assisted by the local pastor, Rev. and Mrs. Wolfe. Interment was made in the Woodburn cemetery.
