Mr. Joseph F. Kirkhart died at the home of his daughter at Monte Vista, Colo., on April 13, 1911.

The deceased went to Colorado with his daughter six months ago and has been bedfast for the past three months. He was patient with his long suffering.

Mr. Kirkhart was born in Hillsborough, Hiland county, Ohio, April 17, 1837. At the call for volunteers in the civil war he went to serve his country and served four years as Captain of Company A 13th Ohio Calvary. He was wounded at Petersburg at the blowing up of the fort and was taken prisoner and held in the Salisbury prison for seven months and three days.

There are left to mourn his death six children, Mrs. B. F. Fogle of Monte Vista, Colo; Mrs. C. O. Shupe and John Kirkhart of Lacona, Iowa; A. S. Kirkhart and S. A. Kirkhart both of Des Moines; and Mrs. Andy Shields of Bloomfield, Iowa.

When a young man he united with the Christian church at Russell Station, Ohio, and was true to his faith.

Funeral services were held from the Christian church at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. G. E. Roberts. Interment in Maple Hill cemetery.
