Funeral Services Held For
Merton C. Forney Sunday

One of Clarke County's
Leading Farmer And
Feeders Dies Suddenly
Of Heart Attack

Funeral services for Merton C. Forney, 54, one of Clarke county's leading farmers, were held Sunday afternoon. A severe illness last winter had left his heart in a weakened condition from which he never fully recovered. Thursday morning a sudden heart attack came and within an hour he passed away.

Mr. Forney was a livestock breeder of no little prominence. He loved good stock and was an extensive feeder.

Merton Curtis, son of Fredrick C. and Ruth Forney, was born on Clarke county, Iowa, February 9, 1879, and passed away at his home in Ward township north of Osceola, April 27, 1933, aged 54 years, 2 months and 18 days.

He was united in marriage with Inez Petrie, February 1, 1905. To this union was born one son, John Richard.

Mr. Forney confessed faith in Christ in February, 1910, and united with the Frame Protestant church and has been a loyal servant of Christ until his passing. He was a loyal worker and helper in every good cause the people of the church undertook to carry out. He is honored and respected in his neighborhood. "A good neighbor, honest and dependable" says one who has associated with him for many years. He was a man who was highly esteemed in his community and no one ever was in need that he did not respond to that need willingly and joyfully. His life is an open book read and admired by all who knew him.

He was a dear lover of his home and family, and was always helpful and dutiful. A good husband and a kind father.

Those who survive are: the wife Mrs. Inez Forney, and son John Richard, both of Osceola, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Forney Wilson, of Osceola, and one niece, Mrs. Dorothy Wilson Wimberley, of Osceola, Iowa, and a large number of other relatives and a great host of friends.

The father Frederick S. Forney, passed away just four months ago today.

Funeral services were conducted from the First Christian church in Osceola, Sunday, April 30, 1933, by Rev. R. Underwood, pastor of the First Methodist Protestant church, assisted by Rev. F. C. McCallon, pastor of the Christian church. Rev. McCallon read 1st Cor. 15, and Rev. Underwood took John 14:1-3 as a text.

A quartet consisting of Mrs. John Gilchrist, Mrs. Floyd McQuern, Earl Edwards and Cloyd Myers sang very beautifully, "Lead Me Gently Home Father," "The Home of the Soul" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Mrs. Harry Stacy was at the organ.

The pall bearers were: Warren McComas, Oscar Patterson, Bert Sams, Oliver Reitzel, Clarence Baldwin, and John Overton.

The many floral offerings were evidence of the high esteem which the friends of Mr. Forney held in their hearts.

Interment was made in the Maple Hill cemetery.
