Seriously Hurt

Osceola Serviceman Injured
In Training At Coast Camp

Marine Larry Rider, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rider of Osceola, was reported still in critical condition this morning at the U. S. Naval Hospital, Camp Pendleton, Calif., from injuries received in a landing ship accident last Wednesday afternoon.

His mother, who flew to California on New Year's day, reported that Larry's injuries were critical but that there was strong hope for his recovery.

The young Marine suffered serious internal injuries and a broken hip, according to preliminary reports of the mishap.

The accident happened during the loading of a tank on a landing barge and reports said that a winch controlling the heavy gate broke so that it fell on Larry. The local youth had finished boot training after entering the service Aug.1.
