"Long-Time Resident Died Here Monday; Would Have Been 94 Years Old Friday -- Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, for John Wesley Miller, 93, who died at Claude Westbrook's home here Monday. He had lived there several years. The services will be IOOF and Rebekah services and will be conducted at Webster Funeral Home with Rev. Azel L. Smith officiating. Miller was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia, Jan. 25, 1863 just 94 years ago Friday. He was educated in the Monmouth, Ill., schools and moved to Clarke county to become a farmer here 68 years ago. He was married to the former Ida May Eby in 1886. The couple had six children. He operated a farm in Clarke county for a number of years and then was overseer of the county poor farm for some time before moving to Osceola. He conductd a produce business here prior to his retirement from active business. Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Bertha Baker of Winterset; Mrs. Verna Pierson [sic] of Bakersfield, Calif., and Mrs. Lena Smith of Osceola. Mrs. Miller and one son, Clyde, preceded him in death." (The Osceola Sentinel, Osceola, Iowa, Thursday, 24 January 1957, pg. 1)
