Services June 24

Funeral services for Avon Blakely of Mesa, Arizona, were held Saturday, June 24, 1978. Rev. Roy Ives of Osceola conducted the 11:00 a.m. service held at the Webster-Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa. Blakely died in Mesa Tuesday, June 20.

Avon Blakely, 79, was born in Woodburn, Iowa February 17, 1899, the son of Fred L. and Stella Marie Penick Blakely.

He was united in marriage October 19, 1919 to Gladys Weller in Osceola, Iowa and one child was born to this union. He had been employed by the Blakely Cattle Commission Company in West Fargo, North Dakota, where he resided for 23 years; and the last five years in Mesa. He was affiliated with the Church of Master United Presbyterian in Mesa.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Gladys of Mesa; son. Gene Blakely of Los Angeles, California and sister, Mrs. Glen (Lucille) Smith of Creston, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Interment was in the Woodburn Cemetery, Woodburn, Iowa.
