Though the infirmities of age have rested heavily upon John W. Miller for many months past and his death which occurred at his home in the city Monday came not unexpected, his departure is the cause of sorrow in his family circle and among a large circle of friends in Clarke county.

John William Miller was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, March 27, 1840, and depart this life February 8, 1926, aged 85 years, 10 months and 12 days. He was untied in marriage to Amda J. Landsman in May, 1861, she preceding him in death August 4, 1918. To this union there were born four children: John Wesley Miller of Osceola, Elizabeth Katherine Davis of Osceola, Edward and David have who preceded him in death in infancy.

He moved with his family from Virginia to Monmouth, Illinois, in 1866. From there he came to Iowa March 1, 1891, locating four miles southwest of Osceola. From the farm he and his wife took charge of the county home, caring for the place fifteen years. The remainder of his life was spent in Osceola.

He leaves to mourn his death, one son and one daughter of Osceola, one brother, D.R. Miller of Osceola, four grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Besides a large number of friends and acquaintances. He surrendered his heart to his Savior early in life. By this surrender he was chosen as a licensed minister. As opportunity presented he was preaching and holding together the weaker churches wherever he found them. During the last few years of his life he was an associate member of the M.P. church of Osceola. Those who knew him knew one who reflected the likeness of Him who he now sees face to face.
