Funeral services were held for Mondel Earl Hays, Thursday, May 15, from the Presbyterian church with Rev. John Klosterboer officiating. Mrs. John Downing was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Ray Hayes, at the organ. Pallbearers were John Bargenquast, Peter Carstens, E. C. Armstrong, Fred Schram, Jake Seivertsen and Ralph Elwell. Interment was in the Nishnabotna cemetery. Earlier services were held Wednesday, May 14, from a funeral home in Osceola at 1p.m. with Rev. Lester Hall in charge. Music was provided by Mary Westphal and Emil Rinderspacher.

Mondel Earl Hays, son of David and Harriet Hays, was born February 14, 1873 in Clarke county and died at the Osceola hospital May 11, 1952 at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 27 days. When he was 14 years of age he moved with his parents to Shelby county and later to Crawford county. The family moved to South Dakota and returned again to Crawford county. He was married to Margaret A. Umland of Manilla in 1902. To this union eight children were born, Gilbert Earl, who died at the age of 11; Roscoe, George, Sears and Chester of Osceola; Mrs. Clayton Mateer; Mrs. Cecil Loomis and Mrs. Maxine Vawn, also of Osceola. Survivors include a daughter in law, Mrs. George Hays, three brothers, Gilbert of Grassy Buttes, N. Dak.; Clyde of Sidney, N.Y., and Harry of Manning; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Iler, Laurel, Nebr., Mrs. Nora Tobin, and Mrs. Zoa Tobin of Huron S. Dak. 11 Grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and six great grand children. He devoted his entire life to farming; fifteen years in Crawford county and the remainder in Clarke county.
