Mrs. Mondel Hays

Funeral services for Mrs. Mondel Hays were held from the Miller Funeral Home, Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Rev. F.C. McCallon officiating. Interment was made at Manilla, Iowa.

Margaret Amelia, daughter of Frank and Anna Umland was born at Moline, Illinois on July 10, 1881 and departed this life, a patient in a local hospital in Osceola, Iowa, on February 7, 1942 being at the time of her death 60 years, 7 months and 3 days old.

On May 04, 1902 she was married to Mondel E. Hays at Manilla, Iowa, and to this union 8 children were born, seven of whom survive. They are: Roscoe, George, Mrs. Clayton Mateer, Mrs. Cecil Loomis, Sears, Mrs. Henry Vawn, and Chester, all of Osceola. One son, Gilbert preceded his mother May 7, 1913, being at the time, 11 years old.

Mr. and Mrs. Hays spent the early part of their married life in the neighborhood of Manilla, Iowa, coming to Clarke county twenty-five years ago and settling on a farm in the Lacelle neighborhood, living there until 1926, at which time they moved northwest of Osceola and established a home where they have since lived.

Those who survive are, her faithful husband and the seven children as before mentioned, with three brothers and two sisters, they are: John Umland of Manilla, Albert Umland of Manning and Will Umland of California. The sisters are: Mrs. John Thompson of Charter Oak and Mrs. Bert Dunn of San Francisco, California. She leaves eight grandchildren (five granddaughters and three grandsons), many nieces and nephews, several other relatives and a host of friends.
