Had Been A Resident Of Clarke County More Than 70 Years

Miss Mary Catherine Rushing, 89, a resident of Clarke county f o r more than 70 years, passed away at the home of her sister,
Mrs. E. R. Saddoris, Thursday. Funeral services were held from
Webster Funeral Home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.
Y. Cole, and interment was made in the Maple Hill cemetery.

Mary Catherine, daughter of Bryant and JoAnn Margaret Rushing, was born near Chambersburg, Illinois, January 28, 1881 and passed a w a y March 28, 1940, at the home of her sister, Mrs. E. R. Saddoris at the age of 89 years and 2 months.

She moved with her parents to Burlington, Iowa in the year of 1861 at the beginning of the Civil War. From there the family moved to a homestead four miles north of Osceola in the year of 1868.

She had resided in Clarke county more than seventy years. Aunt Mary was the fourth child in a family of nine children, and is survived by one sister, Mrs. E.R. Saddoris of Osceola, with whom she has made her home since her mother’s death in 1908.

She was a great lover of hymns, her favorites were “Come Thou Fount,” and “Happy Day.” She was lovingly and faithfully cared for by the members of her family. Beside her sister, she is survived by several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
