“Winston Wood, 75, of Newton died of a heart attack Friday at Skiff Medical Center there. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, with burial at Smyrna Cemetery in Clarke County.

Mr. Wood was born near Weldon and had lived in the Weldon and Osceola areas before moving to Newton in 1998. He was a farmer and a painter in Osceola before retiring. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Smyrna Friends Church, Osceola Calvary Baptist Church and Independent Bible Church in Leon. He had attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton and had served on the board of directors of Farmers Co-op, Clarke County Electric, and Clarke County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son, Marvin of Del Rio, Texas, a daughter, Katherine Hembry of Newton, and six grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a. m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Leon Bible Church or Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton.”
