“Adam C. Price”

“Adam C. Price was born in Morgan county, Illinois, May 16, 1844, departed this life at his home in Clarke county, Iowa, April 3, 1936, age 91 years 10 months and 17 days. He grew to manhood in his native county and in the year 1863 was married to Ruth Ann Bateman.

Ruth Ann Bateman, daughter of Ira B. and Anna Bateman, was born in Michigan December 11, 1845, departed this life at her home in Clarke county, Iowa, April 4, 1936, age 90 years, 3 monthe and 23 days. She was married to Adam C. Price in the year 1863.

Mr. and Mrs. Price came to Clarke county, Iowa, in the year 1894, and located on a farm near Weldon. In the year 1900 they moved to a farm west of Osceola, where they have since made their home. They were real pioneers in Clarke county.

Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Price, eight sons and five daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Anna Davis, preceded her parents in death.
This aged couple were quiet, upright, home-loving folks, kind parents, good neighbors, and worthy citizens. Early in life both were converted and united with the Christian church. After coming to Iowa, Mrs. Price transfered her membership to the Hebron Methodist Episcopal church on the Weldon charge, where she retained her membershiip until death. Mr. Price remained a member of the Christian church.

The words of David concerning Saul and Jonathan may well be applied to this aged couple, ‘They were lovely in their lives, and in their death they were not divided. For 73 years they journeyed together through life, and only 17 hours intervened between their passing from this life to the life beyond.

They will be missed in the home and in the community in which they lived and wrought for so many years. They are survived by eight sons--Harry of Tuscola, Illinois, Thomas, Fred, Adam Jr., Burt, Arch, Edd and Ernest, of Clarke county; four daughters--Mrs. Minnie Simpson of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Mary Wallace of Weldon, Iowa, Mrs. Nellie Gilbert and Mrs. Della Withrow of Los Angeles, Calif.; twenty-one grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends, who will treasure sacred memories of their long and useful lives.”
