“Obituary”

“Lloyd McCune Wallace ... was the son of Frank C. and Siddie F. Wallace, was born near Weldon, Iowa December 25, 1887 and departed this life at his home in Weldon early Friday July 10, 1953 at the age of sixty-five years, six months and fifteen days.

Lloyd lived his entire life in and around Weldon, receiving his education in the schools of Clark county, and later teaching for a time in the rural schools of the county. After a brief period in the army, he became a rural letter carrier, and continued in this capacity more than thirty three years, being still in active service the last day of his life.

He was greatly interested in education and in the world’s great literary and philosophy writings. Among the things he liked best were books, sports and the people he met daily. His family and friends never knew him to be anything but honest, loyal, and generous to them.

He was united in marriage with Lois Moore on November 4, 1929, and to this union four children were born: Melba Louise Roach of Des Moines, Iowa; Mabel Maurine, who died in infancy; Robert Arden of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and Lois Nadine of Des Moines.

In accordance with her father’s wish his eldest daughter has selected the following quotation as being expresive in some measure of his beliefs and personal philosophy. It is taken from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay “Self Reliance”.

Whoso would be a man must be a non-conformist. He who would gather immortal palms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness. Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind. Absolve you to yourself and you shall have the suffrage of the world.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, Osceola. Burial at Maple Hill cemetery, Osceola.”
