FRANCES WINSHIP, OSCEOLA

Frances Louise Winship, 89, of Osceola died Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 at West View Assisted Living in Osceola.

Funeral services will be held at Kale Funeral Home, Thursday, Oct. 20, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ruth Ann Jones officiating. Visitation will be open today (Wednesday, Oct. 19) with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at Kale Funeral Home. Interment will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Lorimor Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church in Osceola.

Frances, the daughter of Vern Hubert Dix and Fern (Nidey) Dix was born Aug. 21, 1922, in West York, Ill. Frances received her education in Grand Junction, Iowa and graduated from Lorimor High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to Harry Eugene Winship on March 30, 1943, at Ft. Wayne, Ind. Frances worked for Snowdons in Osceola for nearly 10 years until she became the Deputy Clerk of Court for Clarke County, where she served in that position for 12 years. She then served as the Clerk of Court for another 12 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Osceola, Query Club, Women’s Club and Tops.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Winship; and brothers, Richard, Robert and Forrest Dix.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Dodson of West Des Moines; her son, Paul Winship of Osceola; four grandsons; two great-grandsons; her sisters, Karen Sue Ripperger of Grinnell, Shirley Ann Davenport of Des Moines and Thelma Jones of Corning; her brothers, Hubert Dix Jr. of Pontiac, Ill., and Gerald Dix of Council Bluffs; and many other relatives and friends.
