Mrs. Mary L. Campbell
Mary Laura Wells, daughter of Francis M. and Marla Wells, was born in Marion County, West Virginia, March 22, 1854, and died at Osceola, Iowa, January 25, 1942, age 87 years, ten months, and three days.

She was united in marriage September 28, 1871 to Calvin A. Campbell, a Union Veteran of the Civil war. Her husband preceded her in death, April 24, 1882. To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters. One son and one daughter died in infancy.

In the spring of 1888, believing that the west held greater opportunities for herself and children, she broke the ties that bound her to her native state and came with her daughter Viola May and her son Russell to a farm in Franklin township, this county. With the exception of about 4 years she has lived in this county continuously since that time.

Her son Russell is the only surviving child, the daughter, Viola having died in December 1936. She had three granddaughters, Merryl Browne, of Powell, Wyoming; Helen Elder of Ames, Iowa, and Virginia Epperly, Osceola, Iowa; three great grandchildren, and a large number of other relatives and friends. She was the last of a family of 13 children, and a large number of other relatives and friends. Her sister, Phoebe J. Sturm preceding her in death by only three days.

She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in early girlhood and remained a staunch supporter of Christianity and thw church the remainder of her entire life.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Lamoree Funeral Home, Rev. R. C. Calkins officiating.

Pallbearers were Newt. Boor, Russell Boor, Pearl Wells, Willard Sturm, Harry Boor and Oscar Sturm.

She was laid to rest in the Woodburn cemetery beside her daughter and sister.
