Cleo O'Neall
Cleo Belle O’Neall, daughter of Owen Andrew and Joanna Jenette Waugh Mason, was born Aug. 14, 1908, in Lucas County and died March 26, 2004, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. She was 95.

She attended elementary school in Lucas County, high school in Clarke County and graduated from Woodburn High School in 1926. She attended Simpson College and Drake University to receive her teaching certificate. She taught country schools in Lucas and Clarke counties for 16 years.

She married Wayne Archibald O’Neall on Oct. 6, 1928, in Osceola.

She was a charter member of the Clarke County Homemakers Home Health Aide Service for 19 years; a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 342 in Woodburn; a member of the Woodburn Unit of Clarke County Hospital Auxiliary; member of the Woodburn Christian Church and a member of the Clarke County Historical Society.

Mrs. O’Neall was honored in 2003 by the Woodburn Alumni Association for her many years of service to the organization. She was also honored as co-grandmarshal of the Woodburn Homecoming Parade in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Oct. 6, 1985; three brothers, Raymond Mason, Virgil Mason and Floyd “Johnny” Mason and three sisters, Vern DeVore, Mabel Frizzell and Inez Manley.

She is survived by three brothers, Glenn Mason and his wife, Bonnie Mason, of Bella Vista, Ark., Clifford Mason and Ivan Mason and his wife, Barbara Mason, all of Osceola; a sister-in-law, Ruth Mason of Indianola; a nephew, Dick O’Neall and his wife, Betty O’Neall, of Urbandale; as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. O’Neall were March 30 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Pastor Gary Freeland officiating. Organist Pennie Gonseth accompanied Emil Rinderspacher as he sang How Great Thou Art and One Day at a Time.

Casket bearers were Bruce Mason, Stan Mason, Glenn Mason Jr., Harley Pippin, Myron Manley and Ronald Mason. Honorary bearers were Jim Mason, Marion Manley, Doyce DeVore, Steve Mason, Brian Mason and Dick O’Neall. Interment was in Liberty Cemetery in Clarke County.
