DEATH NOTICE:

POTTER, Alice Lorene, 89, of Murray, Iowa,died on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa. Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, with Pastor Dwayne Henrichs officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for the family.

ALICE LORENE POTTER ... Alice Lorene Potter, age 89 of Murray, Iowa, daughter of Wert and Elizabeth Mae [Doser] Munyon, was born January 19, 1922 in Ringgold County, Iowa and died July 14, 2011 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa.

Alice grew up around Kellerton and Beaconsfield, Iowa, graduating from Kellerton High School in 1938. She attended Simpson College to receive her Normal Training and taught school for several years.

Alice married Leland Milo Potter on November 6, 1942 in Princeton, Missouri. She moved with him to Wisconsin and Tennessee while he was in the U.S. Army during world War II. They made their home in rural Weldon, Iowa from 1946 until 1967 and then on their Murray farm.

Three children, Stephen Lee, Patricia Lorine, and Richard Lane, were born to Alice and Leland. Besides caring for her family, Alice worked in the cutting department at Snowdon's in Osceola for over 20 years, for Green Thumb, and then as an office assistant at the Murray School for nearly ten years.

Alice was a long-time member of the Weldon Christian Church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, where she served as Matron.

Alice enjoyed her family and playing with her grandkids. She had a warm smile and liked being with people. She and Leland liked driving to music festivals together. They enjoyed vacations with their children and seeing many different things. After Leland's death in 1998, Alice moved into Murray and enjoyed quilting and genealogy. She lived the past nine months with son Steve and Bernie.

Preceding Alice in death were her parents; husband Leland Potter; infant grandson William Ellis; and sister Thelma Newberry.

Surviving are her children; Steve Potter and wife Bernie of Murray, Patricia Ellis and husband Robert of Star Prairie, Wisconsin, and Richard Potter and wife Beth of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Deanne Rowland and husband Scott of Des Moines, Iowa, Karen Jones and husband Doug of Afton, Iowa, David Ellis and wife Dawn Marie of Westminster, Colorado, Laura Klein of Star Prairie, Wisconsin, Michelle Parker and husband Mike of Saskatoon, SK, Canada, Kelly Parry and husband Steve of Van Couver, BC, Canada, and Mark Potter and wife Jackie of Union City, Tennessee; 8 great grandchildren: Bryce, Tanner, and Grace Rowland, Trevor Jones, Cole and Chase Klein, and Sawyer and Harrison Parker; sister Doris Reynolds and husband Wayne of New Virginia, Iowa; sister-in-law Helen Newsom of Des Moines; and other relatives and many friends.
